Gonorrhea is an STD (sexually transmitted disease) that is caused by a bacteria called Neisseria gonorrhea. This is the same bacteria that causes Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. Neisseria gonorrhea can grow and multiply rapidly in warm and moist areas, which make them ideal conditions for the spread of this disease. It is important to diagnose gonorrhea by taking specimens from the area where symptoms are present. There are three ways to test for gonorrhea: the use of sample cultures, RT PCR, and the gonorrhea diagnostic test.

Samples from the throat of patients with gonorrhea will provide results more quickly and accurately than those from other locations. Since throat tests can be time-consuming and costly, doctors commonly rely on gonorrhea infection symptoms to diagnose their patients. When a gonorrhea infection is suspected, a sample of the patient's throat is taken to make a culture. After a few days, a sample of the fluid in the throat is tested for gonorrhea.
