A number of large companies and government agencies have been implementing Microsegmentation as an important tool for data center automation. Microsegmentation allows users to automatically assign workloads to various applications within a data center. This new approach to automation enables the easy creation of workload assignments in an environment with simplified monitoring capabilities.

Moreover, assigning workloads to virtual machines independently provides substantial cost savings for companies. In the traditional approach, IT departments would need to regularly update application security and patch suites. They would also need to perform other responsibilities related to network security, such as regulating traffic. The combination of micro segmentation and automated application enforcement policies simplifies the application deployment process. The time and money saved can be allocated to other network security activities.

When compared to network segmentation, visibility is nearly limitless. With the use of VDI and other techniques, an administrator can segment data based on IP addresses, types of network adapters, and even application settings.
