In computer networking, managed security services typically are network security services, which have been outsourced to an outsourcing service provider. The origins of MSSPs can be traced back to the early Internet Service Providers at the end to mid-1990s. The term MSSP was coined to signify the time period in which a business would purchase its own security hardware and software, in order to maintain its own network infrastructure.
